Broadcast Pros: Hey Podcasters and Amateurs! Do You Want to be a Radio Star?
News came to me via my friends over at Radio World Newsbytes a wonderful pub I’ve been working with and sourcing broadcast and media info since my days running the Broadcast Pros Forum on CompuServe.
It appears our friends over at the Corporation for Public Broadcast Public Radio and Public Radio Exchange are looking for the next new radio star for public radio. Could it be you? May be… here’s what we know:
Public Radio’s Talent Quest is loosely fashioned after the successful Foxx television show "American Idol," This Spring the first-ever Public Radio Talent Quest will reach out to thousands of new voices with the opportunity to showcase their talent, and a chance to win $16,000 to produce a pilot show for national distribution on public radio. Are you in?
From what I’ve read and see, they’re looking for someone engaging and emits "hostiness." (That’s their word not mine!) Entrants will be asked to submit a 2 minute intro piece that hooks or engages the audience with your personality and uses your voice. That’s it. For more info, the FAQs and all the goodies head over to the Public Radio’s Talent Quest web site and learn more there.
The other side of this is what I find the most interesting– All of you podcasters, public debaters and speakers who feel you have got something to give– and something others want to listen to, this is your golden opportunity. I am hearing from the grapevine that local Public Radio Stations have also been given the green light to also sift through the talent pool that enters the contest. So if I were you, I’d consider this one big major cattle call to show your stuff to literally hundreds of Program Directors on Public Radio stations nationwide. Even if you don’t win the big contest, you might get a gig on a local station!
