Fire News: Update on Camp Pendleton Fire AKA Juliet Fire
3:30AM – A couple pieces of business here for those of you following the fires here in the Southern California Area. As per normal when Web traffic gets high, California’s Fire Incident Information Site Has Temporarily Moved to the CAL FIRE Home Page. LA County Fire has info and listings on the Sesnon and Marke Fires on their site here with contact info.
The fire in the Camp Pendleton – Oceanside area is now being called the Juliet Fire. It appears they have had a couple fires on the base, one being a 3,000 acre fire in the Juliet Training Area. The cause of the fire is unknown, but no live fire or incendiary training was being conducted.
Hmm? Wonder what happened here? Fires out in those training areas just don’t "happen."
The San Diego Union-Trib has a article here. KNSD (NBC) as video here.
The U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton in their normal fashion appear to have most things under control, and are fighting the fire jointly with the Oceanside Fire Department. This is why they are Marines, as my nephew Derek would explain. (Hurrah!)
The San Luis Rey Gate at the South end of the base is closed until further notice. If you’re a civilian working on base report to work tomorrow as scheduled, as the little old US Marines are not going to let a simple wildfire get in the way of bigger business.
The Base Press Information Office Reports: The fire forced the evacuation of the Serra Mesa and San Luis Rey Housing Areas. Upwards of 2,000 personnel were impacted At present they have evac’ed family housing close to the fire area and they are being cared for, (naturally) by the Base. Camp Pendleton residents should refer to the Base Web site, at www.pendleton.usmc.mil, and the Base Information Hotline at (760) 725-9045, for further information.
