Healthcare News: The Politics of Healthcare – Obama and McCain’s Platforms

Healthcare is one of the major issues being discussed in this year’s Presidential Campaign. Most of us who work inside the line know the current system is broken. The rest of you in the public sector unfortunately find out just how broken the healthcare system is when you need it most– and it’s too late.

The Harvard School of Public Health and the New England Journal of Medicine cosponsored a symposium: Perspective Roundtable Discussion Health Care in the Next Administration on Sept 12, 2008 at Harvard inwhich senior health policy advisors David Cutler of Harvard University for Democrat Barack Obama and Gail Wilensky of Project HOPE for Republican John McCain plainly discussed their candidate’s goals, reforms, issues and the politics facing our next president.

Plainly put this is real reality television. I must commend Cutler and Wilensky for civilly explaining each candidate’s positions and their goals on healthcare, and the upcoming problems with the system.  While it’s not exciting to watch,  it is a subject worth devoting an hour of your time to viewing or listening– especially if you are a Baby Boomer. It doesn’t answer all questions, but it certainly makes a good start. I must personally commend my Alma Mater for cosponsoring such a program and hope people take the opportunity to watch.

Hat’s off to The Health Care Blog for pointing this out.
