Shaken Not Stirred: Earthquake in Chino Hills Yesterday

Yesterday a magnitude 5.4 earthquake rumbled through Diamond Bar – Chino Hills  area at 11:42 am local time, July 29, 2008. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was centered about 2 miles from Chino Hills,(and 4 miles from our home in Diamond Bar,) and 29 miles from the downtown Los Angeles Civic Center.

USGS and Cal Tech has reported that the center of the quake occurred approximately 7.6 miles underground.

On our end of things the house was hit with a hard jolt then shaken for 20-30 seconds. We had broken glass and crystal in the kitchen as the cabinet doors popped open and items tossed around the house.  Other than that we’re shaken up a bit with the initial jolt and the aftershocks, but coping.  Phone and cell service is hit and miss.

If you felt anything Cal Tech is asking you report it to the "Did you feel it?" website.

There has been some serious damage to various Diamond Bar businesses shelving and groceries were tossed around in the local stores. Mt Sac and Disneyland were closed but will reopen today. There has been power outages around the local area. Here’s the local news angle.
